The afternoon in Agafay moves at the pace of the desert itself — slowly, without urgency, with the quality of the light changing constantly as the sun moves across the sky toward the Atlas peaks on the western horizon.
Optional Adventure Activities
For those who want to add adrenaline to the afternoon, the Agafay offers some of Morocco’s best quad biking terrain — the rocky trails and open plateau create a natural off-road circuit that is simultaneously exhilarating and spectacular. Buggy driving is also available. Both activities are optional, arranged through the camp, and paid locally. Your driver can organize these in advance if you mention your interest when booking.
Optional Horse Riding
A private horse riding session through the Agafay plateau is available as an optional add-on — exploring the landscape on horseback with a local handler, a more elegant and intimate way to cover ground than the quad bike. Perfect for those who want the adventure of the terrain without the engine noise.
The Agafay Sunset — Golden Hour
The highlight of the entire day. As the sun drops toward the Atlas Mountains in the late afternoon, the Agafay Desert undergoes a transformation that has to be seen to be understood. The stone hills, which were grey and pale all morning, begin to glow — first gold, then orange, then deep amber and red. The peaks of the Atlas catch the last light and turn rose. The sky behind them cycles through turquoise, gold, pink, and finally deep blue. This lasts approximately 30–45 minutes and every minute is different from the last.
Photography at Sunset
The sunset at Agafay is exceptional for photography. The combination of the rocky foreground, the Atlas silhouette, and the color palette of the sky creates images that consistently produce the most shared photographs from any Morocco trip. Your driver or a camp photographer can assist with positioning.
